What is BroadBand Light (BBL)?
BroadBand Light (BBL) is the most advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology available today. It offers superior results for various skin concerns by utilizing a broad range of light wavelengths that can be customized for each patient. BBL works by delivering photothermal energy into the skin, which then converts to heat and creates a controlled response within the tissue. This light energy is absorbed by specific chromophores, such as melanin (to treat pigmentation) and hemoglobin (to address vascular concerns). The targeted heat breaks down unwanted pigmentation or vascular lesions, allowing the body’s natural processes to eliminate damaged cells and regenerate healthier skin.

How Many BBL Corrective Treatments Are Required?
Your treatment plan will be personalized based on the severity of your skin concerns. Many patients notice results after just one session, but optimal, long-lasting results are typically achieved with a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions, often performed annually, are recommended to sustain and prolong your results.
What is Involved in a BBL Corrective Treatment?
Before Your Treatment:
- Arrive with a makeup-free, clean face.
- Discontinue retinol, AHAs, or prescription topicals 3-5 days before treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 2-4 weeks pre-treatment.
During Your Treatment:
- Eye Protection: Protective eyewear will be provided.
- Gel Application: A cooling ultrasound gel is applied to enhance light delivery and minimize discomfort.
- Light Delivery: The BBL device emits controlled pulses of light that create a warm sensation on the skin, usually well-tolerated. The session takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
